SMU - Credibility
The Sikkim Manipal University of Health, Medical and Technological
Sciences, Gangtok, and hereinafter referred to as ‘SMU’, is
incorporated under the State Legislative Act (Act IX of 1995) of the
Government of Sikkim. It is recognized by the Ministry of Human
Resource Development - Government of India and University Grants
Commission under section 2(f)
SMU's Degrees/ Diplomas/Certificates are recognized by all members of
the Association of Indian Universities (AIU) and are at par with
Degrees / Diplomas / Certificates of all Indian Universities/Deemed
Universities/Institutions vide UGC Circular No FI-B/92 (CPP) dated
February 1992 & AIU Circular No EV/B (449)/94/176915-177115 dated
January, 1994
SMU was set up in partnership between the Manipal Education and
Medical Group (MEMG) and the Government of Sikkim with the objective
of offering professional quality higher education to students and
working professionals. Apart from regular on-site courses, SMU offers
many career oriented courses through the distance education mode –
through its Directorate of Distance Education. The courses being
offered include Master's, Bachelor's, Diploma and Post Graduate
Diploma. These courses are offered as part of its effort to provide
education for all. The courses are designed to enable students gain
sufficient knowledge and skills, which makes them employable in a
competitive global environment. Manipal Universal Learning, the
Learning Services Provider for SMU, plays a key role in the delivery
of the programs through SMU “Recognised” Learning Centers across the
country.
Our Objectives
- Provide high quality, value-based, career-oriented education to
students and working professionals using technology for optimization
of teaching resources.
- Facilitate students in understanding, developing, integrating and
applying both core and specialized concepts and practices.
- Provide students with a stimulating and learning friendly atmosphere
so that they can specialize in various areas of study.
- Produce energetic, effective, efficient and ethically driven graduates
and postgraduates to serve society.
